Why Vacuum Before Using a Carpet Cleaner?
Vacuum first so that you remove as much debris and dirt as possible. A vacuum can remove things such as sand, pebbles and other types of dirt particles that are imbedded in carpet.
This makes it easier for the carpet cleaner to deep clean the carpet fibers. Also, by vacuuming first, you don’t spend as much water and use as many cleaning supplies. It also reduces the carpet cleaners cleaning time because there is less dirt to clean and remove.
How Often Should You Vacuum Carpet?
Although vacuuming may seem like a tedious chore, it should be done on a regular basis. It is advised that you vacuum once a week. Highly trafficked areas of your home should be vacuumed twice weekly. If you have a pet, vacuum at least twice a week to rid the home of stains and pet hair.
Also, this does not mean just doing a quick spot clean. Take the time to slowly go over each section of the room and suck up as much dirt as possible.
How often you clean your carpets depends on a number of factors like traffic, pets and if you smoke or not. Generally speaking it is advised that they are cleaned at least once a year. However, the following things should be taken into consideration:
- Traffic– How much traffic do you have on a daily basis? There are certain rooms or sections of your home that receive more traffic than others. These areas should be cleaned or at least spot cleaned more often. If you have kids or normal amount of traffic, you should consider using a carpet cleaner at least once per 6 months.
- Medical Conditions– If you or anyone in your home has certain medical conditions such as allergies or respiratory ailments, clean your carpets a couple of times each year. More cleaning tips for people with allergies and asthma here.
- Pets– If you have pets, high traffic, or smoke, you should clean the carpet with a carpet cleaner around every 3 months. You should also vacuum it twice a week
